Concord Soccer Development Program

Concord Soccer Development Program

The Soccer Development Program Consists of a Fall Season, Spring Season and Winter Futsal

Each fall and spring, Concord Soccer's Soccer Development Program (SDP) provides community-based youth soccer instruction and games.  Our program goes from Kiddie Kicker through U19.  Our approach fosters character development, sportsmanship, skill acquisition, and fun in a positive, respectful environment.  SDP is focused on player development, and from Kiddie Kicker thru U10 has no standings, won-loss records, championships, or playoffs.

Each winter, Concord Soccer rents space from Brandywine School District on Saturdays so that players can play futsal, which is a 5v5 soccer game within the confines of a basketball court.  There are no walls in play so ball control is paramount. Although Winter Futsal is part of our Development Program, the one-hour session is for play only.  Parents volunteer to manage the sessions, that is, to bring the equipment, get the game started and keep it running smoothly.

Volunteers are key to SDP:  they process registrations, organize teams, line fields, prepare equipment, serve snacks, and coach teams. Please consider donating your talent, skill, and time to your community.  All coaches of our SDP teams are volunteer parents.  We look for 2 coaches for each team in case 1 coach has a conflict for a session or game.  Concord provides materials and guidance for those interested in coaching.  Please register as a volunteer coach during the online registration process.

*** Important:  Please read the player and parent expectations.

Special Requests:  Concord Soccer may not honor special requests, including carpool, playing for a particular coach, or requesting friends as teammates.  Our club's philosophy is to meet new friends, families, and coaches in our community through soccer.

Required Equipment:  For all games and practices,
- All players must wear shin guards;
- All players with braces must wear protective mouthpieces;
- Players may not wear any jewelry (e.g., bracelets, necklaces, and earrings);
- Players must have a filled water bottle for proper hydration
Soccer shoes, versus sneakers, are optional at the Kiddie Kicker levels.  Soccer shoes are strongly recommended for U8 and older.

Uniforms
Kiddie Kicker through U10:  Players are required to wear Concord red/white jerseys unless teams are sponsored, in which case they will be given a T-shirt.  The jerseys may be purchased for $20 at Talley Day Park on the first two Saturdays of the season.
U12 and above:  Players are required to wear the Concord Soccer Adidas uniform kit (red short-sleeve jersey, red shorts, and red socks), which can be purchased locally (information will be provided).

Weather Cancellations:  Weather cancellation of practices are decided by the team’s coaches and should be communicated to parents by 4:00pm on the practice night.  Weather cancellation of games are decided by the club and will be posted on the website by 7:00am on game day.  Should the weather worsen during the day, the decision to cancel is to be made by the game referee, or in the case of U8 or younger players, by the coaches. Games canceled due to weather will not be rescheduled.

Coaches:  Thank you for volunteering.  Coach meetings will be conducted in advance of each season.

Snacks: An after-game snack, if desired, should be organized by team parents.

WINTER FUTSAL

Each winter, Concord Soccer rents space from Brandywine School District on Saturdays so that players can play futsal, which is a 5v5 soccer game within the confines of a basketball court.  There are no walls in play so ball control is paramount.  Here is the basic setup:

- Goals and GKs:  The GK defends a goal that is the width of the lane and can use hands within the 3-point line arc.  The GK can distribute the ball by throw, roll or pass with feet -- no punting.  We encourage the GK to play as a 5th field player so we don't allow shooting from beyond the half line.

- Balls out of play:  For goal kicks, the GK starts with ball in hand rather than on the ground; corner kicks are as usual; and balls over the sideline are kick ins back into play.

For 2025-26, Winter Futsal is on the following 8 Saturdays in December, January and February:  Dec 6, 13 and 20; Jan 10, 24 and 31; Feb 7 and 14.  The fee for all 8 one-hour sessions is $90 per player.  Winter Futsal will take place at Springer Middle School, 2220 Shipley Road, Wilmington, Delaware.

Although Winter Futsal is part of our Development Program, the one-hour session is for play only.  We ask for parent volunteers to manage the sessions, that is, to bring the equipment, get the game started and keep it running smoothly.  The idea is to let the players play for 60 mins.

You can register for Winter Futsal by logging into your user account on www.concordsoccer.com.  If you don't have a user account, you would need to create a user account first.
