Fall 2007

Boys U9 Vortex

The Concord U9 Vortex is Champion of the Delco Soccer League U9 Division 5S for Fall 2007. After starting the season 1-2, the team finished strongly, winning 8 consecutive games. The Vortex was in third place in the division, until the very last weekend of regular season play. They took over first place with 2 outstanding games that weekend, a 3-0 victory vs the Radnor Revolution, and a 7-0 victory over the Garnet Valley Explosion. The top seeded Vortex went on to win the Championship playoff game for the division, a hard fought 3-2 victory over the 2nd seeded Cecil United. They got down 2-0 early, but battled back with 3 unanswered goals of their own, for the win.

We are particularly proud of this team, for many reasons. The team was largely made up of players who hadn't attended tryouts last spring, but who came forward over the summer, looking for a U9 team. We gave every player who came forward, an opportunity to participate. The team included 3 female players, playing opponents that fielded all male teams. Out of the 14 players, 6 were seven year olds, playing one year up in age. The Vortex is looking forward to the Spring 2008 season. The team staff includes Chris Lee, Frank Fanning, Bruce Haberman and Sharon Corbett. Way to go, Vortex!

Boys U11 Athletico

The U11 Concord Athletico was the Champion of the U11 Blue A Division of the 2007 Delco Columbus Day Weekend Tournament. The Athletico posted a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, and outscored their opponents 14-4, in total goals. Games included scores of 7-0, 1-2, 2-1 and a 4-1 victory in the championship game. To win the championship, the Athletico was victorious over two teams that had been previously undefeated on the weekend, in both the semi-final and final rounds: the TEYSA Warriors and the EBYA Titans. The team is coached by Bruce Haberman and Steve Furman, and trained by Ramon Janeiro. Great job, Athletico!

CONCORD RIDGEBACKS WIN U10 GIRLS DIVISION OF HOCKESSIN SPRING CLASSIC TOURNEY

In their first action of the spring season the Concord Ridgebacks U10G placed first in the U10 Girls Division of the Hockessin Spring Classic Tourney on April 1, 2007. The girls defeated the HSC Lady Hawks #1 4-0, and the SAC Chaos 5-1. Trainer, Darryl Huber, remarked that the girls have been strong with ball possession but have struggled putting points on the board. The high number of goals in the two earlier games was a good sign. The team has been working hard on getting production and play making out of the striker position and it is paying off. In their last match, 1-1 tie vs the Spirit United Dragons, the Ridgebacks gave the Dragons their most competitive match of the tourney, and stepped up their effort versus one of the top premier teams in Eastern Pennsylvania. The Ridgebacks are coached by David Skibicki and are trained by Darryl Huber and Adam Raben.
