Fall 2007
Boys U9 Vortex
The Concord U9 Vortex is Champion
of the Delco Soccer League U9 Division 5S for Fall 2007. After
starting the season 1-2, the team finished strongly, winning 8
consecutive games. The Vortex was in third place in the
division, until the very last weekend of regular season play.
They took over first place with 2 outstanding games that
weekend, a 3-0 victory vs the Radnor Revolution, and a 7-0
victory over the Garnet Valley Explosion. The top seeded Vortex
went on to win the Championship playoff game for the division, a
hard fought 3-2 victory over the 2nd seeded Cecil United. They
got down 2-0 early, but battled back with 3 unanswered goals of
their own, for the win.
We are particularly proud of this
team, for many reasons. The team was largely made up of players
who hadn't attended tryouts last spring, but who came forward
over the summer, looking for a U9 team. We gave every player who
came forward, an opportunity to participate. The team included 3
female players, playing opponents that fielded all male teams.
Out of the 14 players, 6 were seven year olds, playing one year
up in age. The Vortex is looking forward to the Spring 2008
season. The team staff includes Chris Lee, Frank Fanning, Bruce
Haberman and Sharon Corbett. Way to go, Vortex!

Boys U11 Athletico
The U11 Concord Athletico
was the Champion of the U11 Blue A Division of the

a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, and outscored their opponents
14-4, in total goals. Games included scores of 7-0, 1-2,
2-1 and a 4-1 victory in the championship game. To win the
championship, the Athletico was victorious over two teams that
had been previously undefeated on the weekend, in both the
semi-final and final rounds: the TEYSA Warriors and the EBYA
Titans. The team is coached by Bruce Haberman and Steve Furman,
and trained by Ramon Janeiro. Great job, Athletico!

CONCORD RIDGEBACKS WIN U10 GIRLS
DIVISION OF HOCKESSIN SPRING CLASSIC TOURNEY
In their first action of the
spring season the Concord Ridgebacks U10G placed first in the
U10 Girls Division of the Hockessin Spring Classic Tourney on
April 1, 2007. The girls defeated the HSC Lady Hawks #1 4-0, and
the SAC Chaos 5-1. Trainer, Darryl Huber, remarked that the
girls have been strong with ball possession but have struggled
putting points on the board. The high number of goals in the two
earlier games was a good sign. The team has been working hard on
getting production and play making out of the striker position
and it is paying off. In their last match, 1-1 tie vs the Spirit
United Dragons, the Ridgebacks gave the Dragons their most
competitive match of the tourney, and stepped up their effort
versus one of the top premier teams in Eastern Pennsylvania. The
Ridgebacks are coached by David Skibicki and are trained by
Darryl Huber and Adam Raben.
Fall 2006
In their last tournament of the Fall 2006
season, the Concord Ridgebacks posted impressive results in the
U10G Premier Division of the Thunder Fall Bash in Glenelg
Maryland on November 18 & 19. The girls posted wins over the
Seneca Hornets (3-0), FC Frederick Academy Royal (2-0), and the
Thunder Extreme (2-1).In their only loss of the tourney the
girls battled extremely hard in the second half before falling
to the Freedom Flash (2-1).It should be noted that Seneca and
Freedom are ranked as the number 5 and 8 teams respectively in
Maryland.
The Concord
Ridegbacks placed first in the Arkansas Division ( U10G Premier
) in the TBAA Tournament held in Gloucester Co. NJ over the
weekend of Aug. 26-27. In their first game, the girls battled
back from 1-0 and 3-2 deficits to tie the TBAA Bengals 3-3; the
girls then defeated both the Delran Bears (3-1) and the Highland
Shockwaves (1-0). It should be noted that all three Ridgeback
opponents play in the Olympic Division ( highest ranked) of the
SJGSL. The team is looking forward to playing in the Premier
Division of PAGS this fall. In their first league match, the
girls battled a very talented Baltimore Bays team before losing
1-0. The Bays are currently the highest ranked team in Maryland
and the number one team ranked nationally. The Ridgebacks are
coached by David Skibicki and trained by Adam Raben and Darryl
Huber.

Boys U13 Titans

Revolution
The CSA U10 Revolution went undefeated, 3-0, in the 2006 Cape
Express George Pratt Memorial Tournament. The Revolution
scored a total of 9 goals and allowed only 3 against very
competitive teams from PA and NJ. The Revs attack was lead
by AJ Witherell who scored 4 goals over the weekend.
Andrew DiRaddo contributed with a 2 goal game on Saturday,
just missing a hat trick. Evan Needs, Dale Durkee and
Kevin Williams also scored goals. The strong Revolution
Defense was lead by Dale Durkee, Thomas Diamanty, Ben Crain and
Jake Cahill. The team controlled mid field play in all
three games with the excellent ball skill and passing
abilities of Tommy Higley, Evan Needs, Patrick Hoffman, Patrick
Lyons and, Aubrey Kingston. The goal keeping duties for
the tournament were shared by Noah Miles, Kevin Williams and
Patrick Lyons. All three boys played exceptionally well in
goal considering the muddy conditions. Noah Miles
made a diving save late in the first half on Sunday and
went on to record a shut out victory and seal the teams first
undefeated tournament. The Revolution hope to use the
momentum and confidence they built in Cape May to finish strong
in the DELCO Div. 1 fall season.
